Bell supervisors OK sending ordinance to solicitor for review
Monday, October 05, 2009
By Jane Elling Staff Writer
MAHAFFEY - Bell Township Supervisors held a workshop meeting on Sept. 12 to discuss details about an ordinance regulating outdoor wood and coal fired heaters. At Saturday's meeting, supervisors Kenneth Voris and Edward Elling approved sending the completed ordinance to Solicitor Ann Wood for review. Supervisor Steve Byers was on vacation. Details in the ordinance were taken from Sandy Township and Mahaffey Borough ordinances.
In other business, the supervisors approved reappointing a Tax Collection Committee delegate and Barbara Kauffman, secretary/treasurer, who was first named as a delegate, recommended Janice Pearce, Purchase Line School District business manager. Kauffman can still attend the meetings but will not have a vote.
A letter was received from P. Joseph Lehman Inc. of Hollidaysburg about a bridge inspection program. The firm has been awarded the contract from the state Department of Transportation Engineering District No. 2-0 to perform Clearfield County-wide bridge inspections for the next five years.
The supervisors also:
  • learned from Voris, who attends the sewage committee meetings, that the state Department of Environmental Protection said there will be no reimbursements paid to the township for 2008 and possibly 2009.
  • heard the secretary report a truckload of salt was ordered Sept. 21 from American Rock Salt COSTARS. More will be ordered as needed.
  • learned quotes will be received from several companies for an insurance policy package.
  • received answers to letters sent to state Sen. Donald C. White, R-41 of Indiana, and state Rep. Camille "Bud" George, D-74 of Houtzdale, concerning their opposition to House Bill 1500 and paying for state police protection. The legislators also share their opposition. White said the bill is currently in the House Appropriations Committee for review.

The next meeting is Nov. 7 at 8 a.m. in the township building.
