Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community.
All events are open to the public.
To have an event included, submit the information in writing to any office of The Progress by noon Tuesday. Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number.
The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.

Thursday

Art shows

A new art show titled "Animals, Domestic and Wildlife," has been hung on the first floor of the Clearfield Hospital. The paintings are the works of local artists and can be viewed through Sept. 19. The hospital shows are organized by Anna Marie Toto and Dottie Evans, and assisted by Gloria Rowles.

A new Susquehanna River Arts Center artist's showcase has opened at the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library in Clearfield. The featured artist is Ben Saggese of Munson. View this exhibit now through Sept. 12.
Museums open
The Clearfield County Historical Society Museum and Carriage House are open for the season.
The public is invited to visit each Thursday and Sunday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the historic structures at 104 E. Pine St. in Clearfield and view the new displays and renovations that were completed while the museum was closed during the winter months.
It will be open through Oct. 25.
Admission is free to the three floors of the museum, the grounds where the 2004 raft shanty is located and the carriage house with many additional displays.
Genealogy committee members, board members and Retired and Senior Volunteer Program personnel will be available to assist visitors.
No large backpacks, briefcases or purses are allowed in the museum. There is a $5 charge for genealogy research. Many books relating to Clearfield County history are available for sale.
The Bloody Knox Log House at Kellytown is also available for visits. An open house and apple cider making will be held Oct. 11 from 1-4 p.m. Call the museum at 765-6125 to make arrangements for a tour of the Civil War site, the museum and carriage house.
The annual dinner is planned for Oct. 15 at St. Timothy's Hall in Curwensville.

Grice Clearfield Community Museum, located at Fourth and Pine streets, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The museum features more than 70 antique and classic show cars and more than 400 trophy game animal mounts.
Prices are $5 for adults, and children younger than 12 are admitted free with an adult. Group rates are available.
There is a gift shop and free parking. Call 768-7332 for more information.

Friday

Fish dinner
A fish dinner will be served Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Columbia Fire Co. firehall, Osceola Mills. Featured will be baked or fried fish, potatoes, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, roll and dessert. Soup and salad bar available for eat-in only. Prices are $9 for adults and $6 for children.
Takeouts are available. Delivery is available by calling 339-6601 on the day of the dinner before 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit the fire company.
Auction
There will be an auction on Friday at the Bigler Township Building in Madera to benefit the B&B Park. The auction will begin at 6 p.m. and there will be groceries, fresh produce, frozen foods, novelties, gifts and more. The kitchen will be open, and Joe Mangiafico is the auctioneer.

Saturday
Wheels at the Lake
The third annual Wheels at the Lake will be held Saturday and Sunday at Curwensville Lake Recreation Area. Admission both days is $2 per vehicle or a non-perishable food item. All admission fees and food collection will be donated to the Clearfield and Curwensville food pantries.
Saturday's events begin at 9 a.m. and include a classic car show registration at 9 a.m., a dice run, a tourist and ice cream run with registration beginning at 10 a.m., children's games and crafts beginning at 11 a.m. and a performance by the Wooly Mammoth String Band from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, a non-denominational worship service begins at 10 a.m., children's crafts and games at 11 a.m., a bike show with registration at 11 a.m., a bike rodeo at 3 p.m., barbecued chicken dinners at noon, and a performance by Dr. Unks from 6-8 p.m.
Car wash
There will be a car wash at the Morris Township Fire station on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. to benefit the West Branch Band. The cost is $5.

Sunday

Fireworks

A fireworks display will begin at Curwensville Lake Recreation Area at dusk Sunday. Entrance fee is $2 per vehicle beginning at 6 p.m. The display is sponsored by Curwensville Lake Authority.
Poker run
There will be an ATV poker run Sunday, starting at the Madera ball field. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the ride begins at 9 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Madera Fire Co. Cost is $15 per rider, and helmets are required while alcohol is prohibited. There will be food and cash prizes at each checkpoint. Free camping is available.
Auction
There will be an auction on Sunday at the Hyde Fire Co. beginning at 2 p.m. at the firehall. There will be groceries, fresh produce, frozen foods, novelties, gifts and more. The kitchen will be open and Joe Mangiafico is the auctioneer.
