Clearfield tops St. Marys

HYDE - The Clearfield girls tennis team defeated St. Marys, 6-3, on Tuesday afternoon at the Bison Sports Complex.
No. 1 singles player Jenny Miller defeated Rachel Walker, 6-3, 6-2, while No. 3 Kristen McKenzie upended Brandi Meyer, 6-4, 6-3.
Suzie Colesar was a winner over Chloe Stevens, 4-6, 6-3, (10-7) in No. 4 singles, while Bekah Greenland toppled Mary Rosman, 6-3, 0-6, (10-8) in No. 5 singles.
"It was another close match," said Lady Bisons head coach Steve Miller. "Last night, a few points here and there and we may have won. Tonight, a few points here and there and we could've lost.
"It was good to see four wins in singles. Suzie played very solidly in the second set after losing the first to end up winning in a tiebreaker. It was also nice to see Kristen win after losing a close match last night."
In the doubles matches, Miller and Madison Sopic were 8-4 winners over Walker and Meyer. Hillary Buck and Jenna Cowder defeated Kelly Dietz and Hilary Brouse, 8-8 (7-3).
"I was very pleased to see Hillary and Jenna come back from a 5-1 deficit to win in a tiebreaker," said coach Miller.
"The doubles team of Jenny and Madison are fun to watch, and they seem to enjoy playing together."
Clearfield improved to 1-1 and hosts Elk County Catholic this afternoon. Clearfield 6, St. Marys 3
