Each year at the Annual Golden Bison and Alumni Association Reunion gathering two scholarship winners are announced, and at Saturday's 23rd reunion two additional alumni were honored. The event was held at the Clearfield Knights of Columbus hall.

The first honorees were 2009 graduates of Clearfield Area High School, Briana English and Christopher Renaud.

Miss English, the daughter of Deanna Bumbarger of Clearfield, was 11th in a class of 252. Her future plans are to attend Allegheny College and major in journalism.

Mr. Renaud is the son of David C. and Kimberly A. Renaud of Clearfield. He was No. 2 out of a class total of 252. He plans to attend Bucknell University as a political science major. Future plans include law school with an aim to be a constitutional attorney and someday be involved in politics.

They are the 20th year recipients of the S.F.W. Morrison Golden Bison and Alumni Association Scholarships. Mr. Morrison was a former superintendent of schools.

The first ever award presentations for Distinguished Alumni of CAHS were given by the parents of Nathaniel R. Butler, Class of 1994, Richard and Betsy Butler; and Gerry Hatcher, Class of 1983, son of Linda and Gerald Hatcher Sr.

Neither of the men were able to attend the reunion and the parents read the story of their careers and letters thanking the association.

President Derek Walker, Class of 1993, was master of ceremonies. Other officers are Dr. Donna M. Tubbs, Class of 1949, vice president; Joyce M. Fletcher, Class of 1959, acting secretary; and Vicki J. Myers, Class of 1987, treasurer.

Other board of directors members are Ronald Porter, Class of 1961, wall chairman; Linda Dale, Class of 1959, membership chairperson; Sarah Hodge, Class of 1952; and Leland B. Mather Jr., Class of 1946.

The association history was listed in the booklet and said "On Oct. 28, 1986, there was a gathering of alumni who had graduated from Clearfield High School fifty or more years ago. This group voted to organize and the name chosen was the Golden Bison Association."

At the  annual  meeting in 1993, the group decided to include all  who had graduated or attended CAHS and added alumni to the name.

Former president Bob Mitchell was presented with a plaque with a clock. He served seven years.

Mr. Walker asked for suggestions on future Distinguished Alumni of CAHS honorees.

Everyone is invited to visit the association on the Internet at www.clearfieldreunions.com .

The 24th reunion will be held July 31 at a location to be announced, Mr. Walker said that date was chosen so it would be near the time of the annual Clearfield County Fair and alumni can attend both events.

The Mitchell Family Band played music before the dinner, and accompanied the alumni in the singing of the Clearfield High School Alma Mater and Star Spangled Banner.
