Newburg council discusses condition of Lee Hollow Road
Friday, July 03, 2009
NEWBURG - Newburg Borough Council continued a months-long topic of conversation at its meeting last night - what to do about pot holes on Lee Hollow Road. Councilman Al Bell said the road continues to wash out and suggested the borough take a new approach. Mr. Bell said he discussed the issue with President Jim Esposti on the telephone and they decided cleaning out the ditch and putting a crown on the road might be the best option. A motion was made and seconded to rent a bulldozer and backhoe from Tony Hugill to complete the work. The bulldozer would be rented at a rate of $75 per hour and the backhoe at $50 per hour. The borough also purchased 24.32 tons of 2RC stone from Griffith Quarry.
In other old business, council discussed the installment of the borough building sign and a handicap sign. Both items were ordered and received earlier this year and need to be posted.
"I have a piece of Plexiglas that might fit around that (borough) sign," said Councilman Buck Mease. "It's about the size of that."
The borough paid the following bills: Margaret Esposti for auditing, $25; Penelec for street lights, $93.70; Secretary Jen Peterson, $125; Griffith Quarry, $182.40; George Kitchen for mowing, $192.50; and Kim Sayers for real estate collection, $5.76.
Mr. Esposti and Councilman Howard Lee were absent from the meeting.
Newburg Borough Council's next meeting is Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at the borough building.
