Clearfield Pool Sharks in action
Monday, June 29, 2009
The Clearfield Community Pool Sharks put together another impressive meet when they hosted DuBois and Spring Cove on Saturday. The big winner of the day was Paige Conrad, who represented the 9- to 10-year-old girls by picking up victories in four different individual events - the 50 free, 100 IM, 50 fly and 50 breast.
Three-time winners on the day were Michael Spencer (11-12) in the 200 IM, 50 fly and 50 back, Wyatt Flanagan (11-12) in the 200 free, 50 free and 100 free, and Claire Mikesell (11-12) in the 50 free, 50 fly and 50 breast.
Chase Beitz (9-10) in the 50 free, 100 IM and 50 fly, and Luke Mikesell (8-and-under) in the 25 free, 50 free and 25 fly. The 8-and-under age group also got wins from Tabytha Malloy (25 free, 50 free) and Issac Swanson (25 breast).
In th 9-10 group the Covals did some damage, with Sydney beating the field in the 100 free and 50 back, and Alex taking the 50 back. Harrison McMillen was also a dual victor, finishing first in the 100 free and 50 breast.
Lydia Opalisky was the lone individual winner in the 11-12 group, but she got the job done twice, in both the 100 free and 50 back.
The oldest group - 13- to 18-year-olds - was littered with success. The top finishers were Shay Flanagan (50 free, 100 free), Calab Baas (200 IM, 100 back), Alex Fisher (200 free, 100 breast) and Krystal Wriglesworth (200 IM).
The boys and girls got together for the mixed relays, and the results were convincing there as well.
In the 200 medley relay the 9-10 team of Alex Coval, McMillen, Beitz and Tristen Buck finished first, as did the 11-12 team of Opalisky, Claire Mikesell, Spencer and Wyatt Flanagan and the 13-18 team of Baas, Fisher, Shay Flanagan and Andrew Smith.
Three teams won the free relay as well, with the 8-and-under team of Swanson, Katrina Spencer, Keagan Hess and Luke Mikesell took home the 100 free.
The 200 free went to the 9-10 team of Brittany Shaw, Sydney Coval, Paige Mikesell and Conrad, and the 11-12 team of Opalisky, Izaak Kavelak, Michael Spencer and Wyatt Flanagan.
Clearfield will be back in the pool at Tyrone on July 7.
