Glen Hope Fire Co. barbecue is Sunday
Saturday, June 27, 2009
By Terry Whetstone Staff Writer
GLEN HOPE - One of the biggest fundraising events of the season for the Glen Hope Fire Co. will be held on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Glen Hope Park.

The fire company will host its annual chicken barbecue. The dinners are $8 and include half a barbecued chicken, baked beans, applesauce, a roll and dessert.

There will also be a crazy auction with a number of prizes available and $900 in cash will be given away. The cash giveaway chances are $2 each and the winner takes home $500 in cash. Second place will receive $200, third place gets $100, and fourth and fifth each get $50. Tickets will be available at the park and can be purchased at Camburg's Cozy Corner in Osceola Mills and from any Glen Hope firefighter.

The kitchen will also be open with hot dogs, barbecued ham and pigs in a blanket. There will likely be other items as well.

Fire company officials remind residents that a fundraiser letter was mailed out and they thank those who have already sent a donation.

The fire company will also be at the upcoming Houtzdale Days July 23-25 with a booth selling pierogies, pigs in a blanket, roast beef sandwiches and apple dumplings. It will also have chances for sale.

The fire company is preparing for its annual guns and fun benefit that is held in conjunction with Houtzdale and Madera fire companies. This year it will be held on Sept. 12 at the Glen Hope Park.

Glen Hope Fire Co. also holds roast beef dinners as fundraisers, as well bingo every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Fire companies are struggling this year and are asking the citizens they protect to show them support by attending fundraisers or mailing contributions to help them pay their bills.
