Campus Roundup: Seasons coming to end
Saturday, May 16, 2009
By Jon Christoff Sports Writer
While most local athletes have wrapped up their spring seasons, there are still a couple who are competing in the postseason or have received awards for their accomplishments. Here is a look at how each athlete's season has wrapped up:

Baseball
Matt Adams, Slippery Rock: Adams' highly successful season has led to several postseason accolades.

Adams was named the Player of the Year in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division and the Daktronics Inc. Atlantic Region balloting. The Slippery Rock catcher also earned first-team all-conference and was the only Rock player on the Daktronics all-region team.

Adams' .495 batting average was the highest in Division II and set a school record. The Slippery Rock junior was also fifth nationally in on-base percentage (.566), eighth in slugging percentage (.853) and doubles (24) and 10th in hits (91).

The P-O graduate's slugging percentage also established a new school record, while his hit total of 91 tied the mark set by former Mountie player Joe Neidrick.

Adam Jury, Slippery Rock: Jury and his Slippery Rock teammates' loss to Kutztown last week, which ended up being the last game of their season because of rain.

Jury finished the season with a .395 average for Slippery Rock. The former Clearfield standout finished with 11 doubles, three home runs and 41 RBIs for The Rock (36-15). Jury also tallied 44 runs scored and was fourth on the team with 62 hits.

Paul Keith, Penn State-Altoona: Keith, a second-team Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference selection, pitched Penn State-Altoona over Neumann College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Regional tournament. Keith tossed 151 pitches in a complete game, 5-4, win. The former Mo Valley standout struck out 13 hitters in improving to 9-1.

Keith, who broke a school record with his win total, and the Lions captured their first ECAC South Region title after beating Wesleyan College.

Grady Luzier, Penn State-Altoona: The former West Branch stalwart was selected the Most Outstanding Player for his efforts in the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Regional Tournament. Luzier, a first-team All-AMCC selection at first base, went 4-for-4 with an RBI double in the win over Neumann College, and followed it up with a three-hit, four-RBI game in which he scored five times.

Luzier had a team-best .423 average and led the conference in hits (71), doubles (17) and runs scored (60).

Penn State-Altoona's 32-17 record was 12 games better than the school's previous single-season record.

Softball
Brittany Pataky, Lock Haven: Pataky had a pinch-hit appearance during the Division II Atlantic Region I tournament last weekend. The former Lady Bison first baseman flew out in her at-bat against Bowie (Md.) State, which the Lady Eagles defeated 8-0.

Lock Haven claimed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title with a pair of wins over California (Pa.), and advanced to this weekend's Atlantic Super Regional against Kutztown for a best-of-three series.

All former area athletes who play a sanctioned college sport are eligible to be recognized by The Progress for their athletic endeavors in the College Roundup.
