Campus Roundup: Clearfield's Kelly receiving plenty of accolades

Numerous athletes are participating in fall and winter sports at several colleges. And, a few of those have already stood out on the field. Here's a look at what some local athletes are accomplishing: Football
Tanner Kelly, Clearfield: Kelly was tabbed as the Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year after he led the conference in every major passing category this fall at Albright College. He finished the season with 2,629 passing yards, an average of 262.9 per game, and 25 touchdowns with only eight interceptions.
Kelly had a passing efficiency rating of 163.4, the seventh-highest total in the country in Division III. He also led the MAC in total offense with 2,742 yards. Kelly completed 68.2 percent of his pass attempts this fall (206-of-302) and rushed for two touchdowns as well. Nationally, in addition to his rank of seventh in pass efficiency, he ranks 18th in passing yards, 20th in total offense, and 21st in passing yards per game.
Kelly was also recently named to the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation fall Academic Honor Roll. The honor roll comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing. Student-athletes are selected from football, men's soccer, women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, women's tennis, men's cross country and women's cross country. Albright ended the year at 8-3.
Logan Small, Purchase Line: Small, a freshman running back at St. Vincent College, started all 10 games for the Bearcats and finished the season with a team-leading 396 yards, while scoring three touchdowns. He also caught seven passes out of the backfield for 111 yards, good for a 15.9 average.
Small recently received Coaches' Honors for the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Coaches' Honors are the equivalent of all-conference for schools, like St. Vincent, that are in provisional status in NCAA Division-III. The Bearcats ended the season 0-11.
Dave Richards, Clearfield: Richards finished the season at Shippensburg University with 368 yards on 74 carries. He scored three touchdowns for the Raiders and played in 10 of their 11 games. Richards also caught two passes for 16 yards. Shippensburg finished the season at 3-8.
Nick Sipes, Curwensville: Sipes completed his season at Clarion University with 71 tackles, including four for loss. Sipes was third on the team in tackles and also recovered a fumble. He kicked three field goals on the season and nine extra points. The Eagles ended the season 0-11.
Shawn Sopic, Curwensville: Sopic finished his season at Clarion University with 44 tackles, with one for a loss. He also had an interception and two fumble recoveries. The Eagles finished the year at 0-11.
Adam Andrasko, West Branch: Andrasko ended the year with 70 tackles and one sack. He also recovered a fumble. Lock Haven finished the year at 1-10.
Beau Ryan, Clearfield: Ryan finished up his season at Juniata with 35 tackles, including three for a loss. He also rushed the ball once for 15 yards. He had six kickoff returns for a total of 51 yards. The Eagles finished the season 1-9.
Chad Gromley, Purchase Line: Gromley finished the season playing in three games for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He recorded one tackle. IUP ended the season at 9-3.
Men's Soccer
Mark Auman, Clearfield: Auman played in 12 games for Lock Haven University this season. He scored one goal and had one assist. The Eagles ended the season at 13-7.
Alan Baldwin, Clearfield: Baldwin played in eight games for Westminster College this year. He had one goal and one assist. The Titans finished the season at 11-7-3.
Brandon McQuillen, Clearfield: McQuillen started all 20 games in goal for Penn State Altoona this season. He had 17 saves. He also had one assist to his credit. PSU-Altoona finished the year at 16-6.
John Lhota, Clearfield: Lhota played in nine games for Washington and Jefferson College this year. He had one shot on goal. The Presidents ended the season at 12-6-3.
Volleyball
Erin Albert, Philipsburg-Osceola: Albert finished second on the Juniata College team in kills with 390. She also had 104 digs and 34 blocks. She was recently named Women's Volleyball Player of the Week at Juniata after tallying 21 kills over two matches while leading Juniata to the Landmark Conference Women's Volleyball Championship.
Albert had a .645 attack percentage for the week, with a team-high six service aces to go with four total blocks. She had 13 kills and four aces in the championship match against the University of Scranton. The Eagles finished the season at 37-5.
Haley White, West Branch: White played in seven games for Clarion University this year. She recorded 17 kills and had one dig. Clarion finished the year at 28-6.
Danica Hamm, West Branch: Hamm was a member of the Penn State DuBois team this season. The squad finished the year at 3-6.
Women's Soccer
Amber Weaver, Clearfield: Weaver played the bulk of the minutes in goal for Geneva College this season, playing in 15 games. She had 130 saves and won two games. The Golden Tornadoes ended the year at 2-15-1.
Alissa Murphy, Philipsburg-Osceola: Murphy played in six games, starting in one at Juniata College this season. The Eagles finished the season at 9-6-3.
Ashleigh Mohney, Clearfield: Mohney played in all 20 games for California University of Pennsylvania this season. She had five shots on goal. The Vulcans ended the year at 4-15-1.
Ali Yaple, Moshannon Valley: Yaple played in 13 games for Mount Aloysius College, starting in 12. She had six shots on goal. Yaple also played one game in goal. The Mounties finished the season at 1-12.
Joanna Shylock, Moshannon Valley: Shylock played in nine games for Mount Aloysius College, starting two. The Mounties finished the season 1-12.
Andrea Dubensky, Philipsburg-Osceola: Dubensky played in six games for Penn State Altoona this season. She had one assist. PSU-Altoona finished at 13-6-1.
Cross Country
Tara Sipe, Philipsburg-Osceola: Sipe finished 268th at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional Championships at Muhlenberg College in Bethlehem with a time of 25:58.
Swimming and Diving
John Lytle, Clearfield: Lytle finished eighth in the 200 free for Notre Dame at the Ohio State Invitational. Of the 66-swimmer field in the 50 free, Lytle was 14th with times of 20.92 and 21.03 in the prelims and finals, respectively. The Fighting Irish return to action on Jan. 1 against LSU.
Brandon Boyer, Clearfield: Boyer finished second at the 11th annual James E. Longnecker Invitational as a member of the 200-yard free relay team with Washington and Jefferson College. He was also a member of the third-place 200-yard medley relay team.
Boyer finished fifth individually in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.68 and ninth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.79. The Titans finished second at the meet and are currently 4-4 on the year.
Brandon Good, Clearfield: Good, a swimmer at Lycoming College, recently won the 100-yard butterfly in a meet against Ursinus College with a time of 57.83.
Rifle
Matt Hamilton, Curwensville: Hamilton, the team captain for Army, recently posted a personal best in placing seventh with a score of 579 in air rifle in a Great America Rifle Conference Meet against Nebraska and North Carolina State. The Black Knights finished their fall slate with a 6-0 record. The team returns to action on Jan. 19 vs. Ohio State at the Palmyra Tournament in Palmyra.
Women's Basketball
Brittany Barrett, Curwensville: Barrett, a member of the Penn State DuBois team, had 14 points in the squad's first-ever victory.
Wrestling
Matt Kyler, Clearfield: Kyler is 18-4 this season with 11 falls wrestling at 141 pounds for Army. He too second place Sunday at the Penn State Open, falling to Penn State's Garrett Scott, 3-1, in overtime. Kyler had three pins and two overtime decisions in the rugged tournament.
Kyle Keane, Curwensville: Keane is 5-3 at 165 pounds for the University of Pitt-Johnstown. He was 3-2 in the Penn State Open and recorded a victory over Penn State's Dave Rella, 7-5.
Tom Barger, Clearfield: Barger has compiled a 5-3 record wrestling at 141 pounds for Lycoming College.
Cody Billotte, Clearfield: went 0-2 for Lycoming College at 125 pounds at the Ursinus "Fall Brawl" Tournament.
John Sutika, Curwensville: Sutika earned his first win of the season at the Penn State Open, a 7-4 decision over Tim Trivisanno of Rider in the first round. Both were wrestling unattached. Sutika is 1-6 on the season, competing at 125 pounds for Pitt.
