The Gulich Township Supervisors, Clearfield County, PA are accepting seal bids for the prefabricated steel beam bridge superstructure related items listed below, the township will decide which item to proceed with after the bids for both items have been received. Both items are for the replacement of the bridge that carries T-919 (Walnut Street) over Little Muddy Run near the Janesville Dam.

Sealed bids will be accepted until 3:00 P.M., local time, on May 6, 2021. The bids will be opened and read aloud at a regular meeting on the same day beginning at pm. The sealed envelope containing the bid shall be marked “Bid for T-919 Bridge Superstructure”. The township reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

Item 1) 1050-0001 Bridge Superstructure with Timber Deck:

This item shall consist of designing, furnishing, and delivering all components and hardware required for the erection of a pre-engineered, prefabricated steel beam bridge superstructure of the “Cortez Style” as per US Bridge or approved equal. The item shall include girders/ stringers/ diaphragms, bearing devices with anchor bolts, expansion devices, guiderail system, backwall plates (if required), and all bolts and hardware necessary for the installation of these specifications. The structure span length is 21’-9” centerline of bearings to centerline of bearings, and a width of 22’-9” between the guide rail parapets. The PennDOT skew angle is 90°. The fabricator is responsible for verifying all required dimensions prior to fabrication. All connections, shop and field, shall be bolted.

Design shall use the LRFD method and H20, HS20, PHL-93, TK527, ML80 and P-82 loadings. Rating factors for inventory and operating levels are required for all loadings, operating only for P-82. All design and fabrication shall be done in accordance with PennDOT Design Manual Part 4 and Publication 408. The fabricator(s) must be PennDOT approved and listed in Bulletin 15.

The fabricator shall visit the site, prior to design, and obtain accurate measurements of the existing bridge to ensure the new structure will fit the existing abutments with proposed beam seat modifications per the contract drawings.

Supplier to furnish complete sets of stamped drawings and calculations for the structure within 30 days of award to Gulich Township for approval prior to fabrication. Assembly manuals shall accompany shop drawings. Drawings shall be stamped by a professional engineer licensed in the State of Pennsylvania.

All materials must meet current PennDOT specifications and be Bulletin 15 approved. All steel to be domestic structural steel, ASTM A-572, Grade 50, and to be shot blasted prior to fabrication. Structure to be hot dip galvanized after fabrication, per ASTM A-123. Damage to hot dip galvanized coating, resulting from welding, handling, or other factors, shall be repaired in accordance with ASTM standard practice A-780. All bolts and fasteners shall be hot dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM specification A-153. The supplier of the superstructure shall provide a written warranty, against corrosion of the superstructure, for a period not less than 35 years.

The bridge shall utilize a nail laminated timber deck flooring/deck system.

A PennDOT approved fascia mounted bridge railing shall be provided on both sides of the structure.

Delivery of structure shall be six (6) to eight (8) weeks after County approval of drawings. Bearing plates, anchor bolts, and expansion joints (if required) will be furnished in advance for incorporation into the new beam seat area and backwall. Delivery to be coordinated between the supplier and Gulich Township.
